ALEXANDRIA, VA – Congressional Institute President Mark Strand issued the following statement regarding the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress approving recommendations to increase civility and collaboration in the U.S. House:

“When it comes to leadership, those who lead by example always have the most credibility. On the topic of civility and bipartisan cooperation, the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress has been a working model for their colleagues. The 25 recommendations the Committee approved today to facilitate a more collaborative approach to lawmaking are a great first step toward restoring civility in the U.S. House.

“The American people are looking to their federal representatives to solve the big problems facing us — things like inflation and easing the supply chain crisis. They want lawmakers to put aside partisan squabbling and focus on getting our economy back on track. The first step toward that is creating a more civil environment that encourages participation in the legislative process. We commend the Committee for their hard work and hope that it creates a foundation for significant legislative reforms to restore civility and get Congress working effectively.”
